The choice of the hotel proved to be right: we stopped at Hilton York City hotel, the only 4* hotel in the centre and our windows overlooked the Tower.
The city which was founded by Vikings (York departed from Jorvik the name of the founder of the city) and it used to be the capital of England.
The land known since king Arthur time, attracts attention by its views and the air which I would say has got not only smell but even taste. Everyone wants to have dinner with the best view and excellent cuisine. We solved this problem in a restaurant Miller Howe (millerhowe.com). But if you plan to stay... read more

St. Paul’s is another “don’t miss it” sight. I suppose it’s really more than a “sight”: it’s a house of religion which seems to have transcended religion. The history of the site is overwhelming (there has been a cathedral to St. Paul on this site since 604 AD!). The current building (now 300 years old) has been recently cleaned, and is truly stunning. As others have commented, if you are up to walking a LOT of stairs, take the trip up to the top of the dome. The views from the outside of the top are unbelievable, plus you’ll be able to point out to friend and family where you stood. The outstanding efforts of... read more
This hugely ambitious project, in which 19 of the most prestigious names in architecture and design collaborated on a Jean Nouvel building, finally opened in 2005.Any hotel designed by a posse of world-famous architects and interior designers will be either brilliant or cringingly gimmicky.
Happily, the 342-room Puerta America (”The Next 7 Wonders,” April 2006) falls squarely into the brilliant category, since it offers a way to inhabit some of Europe’s most avant-garde spaces.
A top-floor swimming pool, health club, and lounge deck offer the design maven guests who stay here a place to sweat or chill.... find more

Florence was originally established by Julius Caesar in 59 BC as a settlement for his veteran soldiers. It was named Florentia (Flourishing) and built in the style of an army camp with the main streets, the cardo and the decumanus, intersecting at the present
Piazza della Repubblica.
The historic centre of Florence continues to attract millions of tourists each year and was declared a World Heritage Site by the UNESCO in 1982.Florence is known as the “cradle of Renaissance” (la culla del Rinascimento) for its monuments, churches and buildings.
The best-known site and crowning architectural jewel of Florence is the domed cathedral of the city, Santa Maria del Fiore, known as... find more

It is not a remarkable town on the edge of the land, except for its castle (Inverness Castle) but it is actually a starting point for travel to Highlands, Lohness and Hebrides Islands and we started the next day. And before the trip a sauna and a swimming pool at the Hotel Best Western Palace & Spa were really in time. And besides the windows of the hotel overlooked the.... read more

Sicily- Spectacular ruined temples and theaters in the ancient Greek cities of Agrigento, Siracusa, and Segesta.
Palermo, with its picturesque, semi-crumbling palazzos, grand piazzas, and vibrant markets.
Bold, spicy cuisine served at seaside cafes and Michelin-starred restaurants.

Mallorca and the Balearics- Ibiza: enchanting pine-forested interior; cove beaches (And, yes, the clubs still rock).
Menorca: agriculture, peace, beaches (and ugly resorts).
Mallorca: old, pretty, now-hot-again standby.
Formentera: trendsetters, peace, beaches (nudist).... another one

Ca’ d’Oro (correctly Palazzo Santa Sofia) is regarded as one of the most beautiful palazzos on the Grand Canal in Venice. One of the older palazzos, it has always been known as Ca’ d’Oro (golden house) due to the gilt and polychrome external decorations which once adorned its walls.

The Palazzo was built between 1428 and 1430 for the Contarini family, who provided Venice with eight Doges between 1043 and 1676.The architects of the Ca d’Oro were Giovanni Bon and his son Bartolomeo Bon.The principal facade of Ca’ d’Oro facing onto the Grand Canal is built in the Bon’s Venetian floral gothic style. Other nearby buildings in this style are Palazzo Barbaro and the Palazzo Giustinian... read more

A historic jewel hidden away at the heart of Europe, the Czech Republic packs a lot of punch for such a small country. No bigger than Scotland or South Carolina, it’s crammed with fairytale castles, medieval towns, elegant spa resorts and scenic national parks. And on top of all that, it’s the birthplace of the world’s finest beer. For a country that’s only been around since 1993, the Czech Republic does a fine job of showcasing an exciting history. And when you’ve had your fill of the past, return to Prague, one of the world’s most...continue
